Course Summary
The unit 11244NAT – Course in Mental Health Support for First Responders – is designed to equip first responders with the knowledge and skills to manage and support mental health, both for themselves and their colleagues. This course is tailored for individuals working in high-pressure, high-stress environments such as emergency services, firefighting, police, paramedics, and other first-response roles, where mental health challenges are often a significant concern due to the nature of their work.
Throughout the course, participants will learn how to recognise signs and symptoms of mental health issues in themselves and others, such as stress, anxiety, PTSD, and depression. The training covers practical strategies for managing mental health, including stress reduction techniques, emotional resilience, and self-care practices. Participants will also learn how to provide peer support, initiate conversations about mental health, and connect colleagues with professional mental health services when necessary. The course emphasises the importance of reducing stigma around mental health and fostering a supportive work environment.
This unit is ideal for first responders and emergency personnel who want to improve their understanding of mental health and build skills to support their own well-being and that of their peers.
Upon completing 11244NAT, participants will be equipped to manage mental health challenges effectively, provide meaningful support to colleagues, and contribute to a healthier, more resilient workforce. This training is vital for promoting mental wellness and reducing the long-term impact of stress and trauma in high-pressure first-responder roles.
