Course Summary
The unit 22578VIC – Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis – is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and practical skills to effectively recognise, respond to, and manage anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction. This course focuses on providing immediate first aid to individuals experiencing anaphylaxis, ensuring that learners can act swiftly and confidently in emergency situations to prevent serious health outcomes.
Throughout the course, participants will learn how to identify the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis, which may include breathing difficulties, swelling, and severe allergic reactions. The course covers the correct use of adrenaline auto-injectors (such as EpiPens), providing clear instructions on when and how to administer the medication. Students will also gain an understanding of how to develop anaphylaxis risk management plans, ensuring they are prepared to manage emergencies in various settings, including workplaces, schools, and community environments.
This unit is highly relevant for individuals working in environments where there is a higher risk of exposure to allergens, such as childcare workers, teachers, sports coaches, or anyone responsible for the care of individuals with known allergies. It is also valuable for general community members who want to be prepared to respond to anaphylactic emergencies.
By completing the 22578VIC unit, students will be equipped with the critical first aid skills necessary to respond to anaphylaxis confidently and effectively. The training provides life-saving techniques that align with current medical guidelines and regulatory standards, ensuring students can provide prompt and competent care in the event of an allergic emergency.
