Course Summary
The unit HLTWHS005 – Conduct Manual Tasks Safely – equips personal care workers with the essential skills and knowledge to perform manual tasks safely, minimising the risk of injury to themselves and the clients they support. This unit is crucial for personal care workers in aged care, disability services, healthcare, and community care, where manual handling is a routine part of providing care.
Throughout the course, participants will learn how to safely perform tasks such as lifting, repositioning, and transferring clients using proper body mechanics and equipment, such as hoists or slide sheets. The training covers identifying manual task risks, implementing risk control measures, and following workplace health and safety (WHS) guidelines. Emphasis is placed on using personal protective equipment (PPE), maintaining correct posture, and applying safe work practices to protect both workers and clients from injury.
This unit is ideal for personal care workers, healthcare assistants, and support workers who engage in hands-on care, especially tasks that involve manual handling and client mobility.
Upon completing HLTWHS005, participants will be equipped to conduct manual tasks safely, ensuring the well-being of themselves and their clients. This training is essential for preventing workplace injuries and promoting a safe, compliant care environment.
